June 30th, 12 - 5pm
House of 950 is a clothing label focused on reinterpretation of the domestic—subverting ideas of aprons, ties, and layers—with a playfully conceptual bent.
The most recent investigation has been into the form of embroidery, particularly embroidered phrases. Mixing the automatic readability and accessibility of the internet age with this traditional form, House is inviting active participation in the re-appropriation of narrative.
House of 950 designer Eric Holbriech's "minute museum" series explores different fleeting installations that exist outside a traditional clothing label structure. For one afternoon only, Holbreich presents mm16 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. He will make the labor of production visible through the in-person use of an embroidery machine.
Participants may purchase a t-shirt embroidered on-site with a phrase of their choosing, or, conversely, bring other garments to be embroidered.
You can pre-purchase to guarantee size availability, otherwise it is first-come, first-serve. You can also RSVP for this event!
This event also coincides with the closing of Maryam Jafri’s exhibit at the ICA LA I Drank the Kool-Aid But I Didn’t Inhale, experiments at the crossroads of cultural anthropology and conceptual art.
The House is an independent designer lifestyle brand that focuses on the reaction between the clothing and the person, awkward beauty, is actively charming, and explores comfort and ease within austerity and simplicity. The House does not have a fixed inspiration and instead designs each collection as an evolving series, allowing us to explore within our own world and aesthetic. Designed and hand-sewn in LA by Eric Holbreich who previously worked for, among others, labels Bless and Balenciaga, and has done projects in collaboration with Margiela and VDL Neutra House.
